The jury in the murder trial of an Iowa teenager heard on Wednesday a disturbing 911 call in which the 13-year-old suspect admitted to killing his own mother after a failed attempt to rape her.

Crooks, who is now 14, was charged with first-degree murder and assault with intent to commit sexual abuse in the March 24, 2012, slaying of his mother, 37-year-old Gretchen Crooks.

In the 911 recording made on the night of the murder at the family’s Osage home, Noah Crooks could be heard telling dispatcher Barb Michael: ‘I’m not joking at all. She’s dead. I’m scared. I killed my mom with my .22. I don’t know why I did it.’

‘I feel crazy and I know I’m not. I think I have some form of ADD,’ Crooks told the 911 operator. ‘I tried to rape her. I tried to rape her but I couldn’t do it.

‘Who tries to rape their own mom? My life is down the drain now.’

As Michael placed a call to deputies and sent an ambulance to the Crooks’ home, Noah told him that his weapon is empty and appeared concerned that the officers might shoot him.

‘I just wish it was a dream so I could wake up and I could kiss her and hug her,’ then-13-year-old Crooks said.

Noah rambled on about his mother making him homemade doughnuts earlier that night and expressed disbelief that he killed her after she did that for him.

He then revealed that Gretchen Crooks had taken away his ‘Call of Duty’ video game because he got bad grades in school, and that is when he snapped.

‘Something just came over me,’ he told the dispatcher.

On Friday, Noah’s father, William Crooks, 41, testified that on the day of his wife’s murder, he was at a going-away party for his boss when he got a text message from his son that read: ‘Dad this is Noah. I killed Mom accidentally, I egret it. Come home now please.’

Crooks was certain that his son was kidding and responded in kind: ‘OK. Just throw her in the grove. We’ll take care of her later.’

About 20 minutes later, a sheriff’s deputy called Mr Crooks and told him that he needed to come home because an accident had taken place.

Crooks pulled up to the house at around 8.20pm on March 24. In court Friday, he described the scene inside his home as ‘chaos.’

The father explained o the jury that his was was the disciplinarian in the family, and had a stormy but loving relationship with their son.

 

Mr Crooks added that the mother and son would fight often, but later make up and play games together. She was the one who bought the .22 caliber Ruger as a present for Noah in 2010 when he was about 11 years old.

The father said that his son did once say that he wanted to kill his mother, but he didn’t take the threat seriously.

There was no history of domestic abuse or criminal records associated with any Crooks family members.

On March 24, 2012, Crooks is believed to have fired a .22 caliber at his mother at their rural home. The teen was said to be calm and emotionless when he called 911 reporting the shooting.

Then came the Obama attack — “We got a black president [who] can’t even go talk to [Jong-un] … Obama can’t do s**t, I don’t know why he won’t go talk to him.”

A short time later, Rodman continued the anti-Obama talk — saying, “Obama? F**k him!”

The CIA asked for the Boston terror suspect and his mother to be added to a terrorist database in the fall of 2011, after the Russian government contacted the agency with concerns that both had become religious militants, according to officials briefed on the investigation. About six months earlier, the FBI investigated Tamerlan Tsarnaev and his mother, Zubeidat Tsarnaeva, also at Russia’s request, one of the officials said. The FBI found no ties to terrorism.

The revelation that the FBI had also investigated Tsarnaeva and the CIA arranged for her to be added to the terrorism database deepened the mystery around the family. The Tsarnaevs are ethnic Chechens from southern Russia who immigrated to the Boston area in the past 11 years. Tsarnaeva, a naturalized U.S. citizen who has appeared on television interviews since the attacks and reversed her decision to return to the U.S. after the bombings, has said her sons could never have been behind the deadly attacks and believes they were framed.

The officials spoke to the AP on condition of anonymity because they were not allowed to speak publicly about the ongoing case.

Tsarnaev, who died in a gun battle with police last week, and his younger brother, Dzhokhar, are accused of carrying out the bombings. Officials said that before he was advised of his constitutional rights to remain silent or consult a lawyer, Dzhokhar Tsarnaev admitted to FBI interrogators that the brothers committed the bombings and that he was recruited by his brother to participate only a week or two before the attacks.

NBC reported that a small homemade bomb was the preliminary cause of the tragic event. According to the Associated Press, an intelligence official said authorities sought to dismantle additional explosive devices found on the scene.

After nearly three years in prison, Wesley Snipes is almost free man.

The Blade star was released this week from a Pennsylvania prison and transferred to house arrest after being admitted in 2010 on charges of federal tax evasion.

According to TMZ, the 50-year-old actor left the McKean Federal Corrections on Tuesday, several months shy of his 36 month sentence.

Snipes is no longer listed as an inmate at the rural facility, and is now listed on the website of the Federal Bureau of Prisons as being  under the watchful eye of the New York Communty Corrections Office.

Officers will keep a watchful eye on the actor as he finishes out his sentence under home confinement, which the FBP lists as July 19.

His release is — ironically — just two weeks before tax day.

The Passenger 57 actor was found guilty of not paying as much as $15million in dividends to the government for his earnings from 1999 to 2001.

His lawyers argued that his tax advisers, Douglas P. Rosile and Eddie Ray Kahn, who were also jailed, had duped their client with a claim that there were no laws requiring him to pay tax.

On Saturday, police interrupted his jog.

WTVJ reported that four officers responding to a 911 call ticketed Mesa for obstructing traffic. Sgt. Robert Hernandez of the Miami Beach Police Department told the station that authorities witnessed Mesa jogging between cars.

Mesa allegedly told officers he wouldn’t stop running backwards in the street. He told WTVJ he believes police singled him out because they learned of a past drug charge.

According to the Miami Sun Post Weekly, Mesa runs backwards two or three times a week for about two hours. He makes exercise a priority — especially because in 1993 he learned he was HIV positive. He also suffers from cirrhosis, a liver condition made worse from his past with drug and alcohol addiction.

Now, he’s working to recover and turn his life — like his running — around.

“Every time I take one step jogging backwards I dedicate it to [God] because that is a miracle,” he told Sun Post Weekly. “I represent what supposedly is not possible.”

The contest, which is part of the annual conference of the Association for Applied and Therapeutic Humor, requires the chosen laughers to face off against each other as the audience determines who has the most contagious guffaw.

Reed is hoping to be a serious contender for the title of top laugher.

“I’ve been told I have a contagious laugh,” Reed, 33, told The Huffington Post. “It doesn’t take much to make me laugh.”

But he may have a tough time of it. The chosen laughers can’t be Johnny-one-chuckles in their snicker stylings, according to the contest’s organizer, Canadian filmmaker Albert Nerenberg.

“We will audition people until we get to the top 10, and then we eliminate them by having them attempt different laughs,” Nerenberg told HuffPost.

The variations include the belly laugh, the Alabama knee-slapper, the maniacal laugh and the diabolical laugh. The last one is the most challenging according to Nerenberg, who said the goal is to make the audience laugh with your laugh.

“It’s a solo laugh that requires a good diaphragm,” he explained to the San Diego Downtown News. “Whereas the other laugh styles require someone to get the audience laughing, a good diabolical laugh requires the laugher to infect himself and start laughing naturally.”

Even Reed admits that one may throw him for a loop.

“That one’s going to be hard,” he said. “I do a better Alabama knee-slapper and a maniacal laugh.”

Saturday’s contest is the first national championship in the U.S., although Nerenberg has organized previous national laughing contests in Canada and Japan and a state championship in California back in 2010, while making a documentary called “Laughology.”

He said he got the idea after watching Ultimate Fighting Championship bouts — no joke.
